To truly appreciate the evolution of alternative energy, we must first understand the history behind fossil fuels.
What Is Fossil Fuel?
Fossil Fuel is the result of fuel formed through the process by which dead
organisms from millions of years ago is buried under layers and layers of earth.
Different types of fuels are formed based on the debris of plants and
combination of living animals that were present at the time, the temperature and
pressure of the decomposing material, and how long the material was buried.
What made fossil fuel so popular?
During the industrial evolution fossil fuel was the ideal energy source because it
could be found near the surface of the earth, and it was used to compensate for
the lack of charcoal and firewood. Our population continues to increase every day,
which makes the pressure to use fossil fuel even more, along with the advancement
of our science and technology, also making the extracting process much faster and
smoother. Fossil fuel played a major role in the evolution of our vehicles. We
transitioned from walking to riding horses and carriages, then we moved on to cars
with combustion engines. Cars has become cheaper and more in demand as a
means to travel, which is why 28% of our fossil fuels are used for transportation of
goods and people.
The problem with Fossil Fuels
Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere when Fossil Fuel is burnt, which
acts as a greenhouse gas, the main reason for global warming. The effects are
absolutely crucial, and if we don’t do anything to repair the damages we have
accumulated overtime, our generation of kids will suffer. There are many
alternatives to reduce this issue, but not many of us acknowledges that.
Alternative drilling solutions
Many of our scientist and engineers today shows their concerns about this issue
through inventions such as electric cars, windmills, and electric generating water
dams. These inventions created a upspring in the awareness of the harm Fossil
fuel is doing to the environment.
Electric cars -
You may have noticed some of these bad boys tarring up the streets in the past
frequent years, maybe you haven’t seen them but you are definitely aware of its
existence. Researchers at Harvard University confirmed that in order to get more
people to switch to the electric car, they would need to increase the gas prices to
about $4.00 and create longer lasting batteries for these cars. These machines are
revolutionizing what it means to truly decrease our carbon footprint.
